Dubai: An Indian housewife is holding a weight management meet on Sunday to support the UAE's fight against fat.
Leena Asher, 36, was spurred into action after being told that her body had a biological age of 51, after growing up in Dubai.
Currently weighing 87kg, she hopes to lose between 0.5 to 1kg a week to attain her target weight of 60kg.
Leena blamed Dubai's "see food" plague for the city's expanding waistline, including her own. "Residents are encouraged to eat all the time as food surrounds them constantly, with an excess of restaurants, cafés and food courts," she said.
"I think the challenge for every child growing up in Dubai is having so much food easily available and the lack of education about nutrition.
"We are surrounded by food in Dubai. We see food, so we eat food," she said, adding "see food" was causing weight problems among children and adults. "I suffer from it. Whenever we see food — we want to eat it and that's where my difficulties start."
