As the globe gears up to celebrate ‘World no tobacco day' on May 31st, 2010 there is a sad contribution from India. The country witnesses a growing number of women smokers and the case is specifically relevant to females working in BPOs and media.
The Day highlights the need to ban all tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship in accordance with the constitutions or constitutional principles of various countries.
There are 1.1 billion smokers in the world today, and if current trends continue, that number is expected to increase to 1.6 billion by the year 2025.
Worldwide, approximately 10 million cigarettes are purchased a minute, 15 billion are sold each day, and upwards of 5 trillion are produced and used on an annual basis.
Tobacco can be chewed, smoked, or inhaled. It can be smoked in the form of cigarettes, pipes, or cigars. It can be chewed or inhaled as snuff.
Why should you quit:
- Quitting smoking is one of the most important things you will ever do.
- You will live longer and live better.
- Quitting will lower your chance of having a heart attack, stroke, or cancer.
- If you are pregnant, quitting smoking will improve your chances of having a healthy baby.
- The people you live with, especially your children, will be healthier.
- You will have extra money to spend other things.
